The Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IAI) at UGA will adopt a new dual reporting structure starting July 1, 2024, to enhance its academic programs and research collaborations. This change results from extensive efforts by a faculty working group and has been approved by the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, and the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.

- Franklin College will continue to oversee and support IAI’s academic programs.

- A new executive director position for IAI will be created and funded by both the Provost’s Office and Franklin College.
- A national search for the executive director will begin in the fall.
- Dr. Khaled Rasheed is appointed as the interim executive director effective July 1, 2024.
- Future Appointments:
- An associate director for research position will be created and recruited internally, targeted for fiscal 2026.
- An interim associate director for research will be appointed internally, starting July 1, 2024, with nominations forthcoming.
Expectations:
- The new framework aims to promote innovation, expand AI applications in teaching, research, and outreach, and elevate UGA’s leadership in AI.
